Terms & Conditions

Last Updated: September 2026

1. About these terms

These terms apply to all work carried out by South Coast & Canberra Auto Electrics ("we", "us", "our") for you, the customer. By booking a job, approving a quote or letting us start work, you agree to these terms.

Nothing in these terms takes away the rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law. If anything here conflicts with those rights, the law wins.

2. Changes to these terms

These terms and conditions may change from time to time. Please check back on this page regularly. The terms that apply to your job are the ones shown here on the day you booked it.

3. Quotes and estimates

  • A quote is a fixed price for the work described in it. It is valid for the period shown on the quote.
  • An estimate is our best guess of the cost based on what we know at the time. Electrical faults often can't be priced exactly until the vehicle has been inspected.
  • A price given over the phone is a general idea of cost only, not a quote.
  • If we find the job needs more work, parts or time than quoted or estimated, we will contact you first. We won't go ahead with extra work without your approval.

4. Call-out fees and diagnostics

  • We are a mobile service. A call-out fee may apply depending on your location, and we will tell you what it is before we come out.
  • Diagnostic time is charged whether or not you go ahead with the repair, because finding the fault is work in itself.
  • Some faults are intermittent and may not show up while we are with the vehicle. In that case you pay for the time spent, and we will talk you through the options.

5. Bookings and cancellations

  • Book by calling or texting 0499 323 781. We work Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm, and offer same-day service where we can.
  • Arrival times are our best estimate. Travel, weather and earlier jobs can run over, and we will let you know if we are running late.
  • Please let us know as early as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. If you cancel after we are on the way or on site, the call-out fee may apply.
  • Parts ordered specially for your job may not be returnable. If you cancel after they have been ordered, you may be charged for them.

6. Your vehicle and the work site

So we can work safely and efficiently, please:

  • Park the vehicle somewhere safe, level and off the road, with enough room to work around it.
  • Have the keys and any security or immobiliser fobs available.
  • Remove valuables and personal items from the vehicle.
  • Tell us about any known faults, previous repairs or aftermarket modifications, alarms or accessories.

We may decline or stop work if the site or vehicle is unsafe. If we can't get access at the booked time, the call-out fee may apply.

7. Older vehicles and existing faults

  • Wiring, plugs and plastic parts on older or heat-affected vehicles can be brittle and may crack or break when handled, even with care. If this happens we will tell you and quote the fix before doing it.
  • Disconnecting the battery can reset radio codes, clocks, seat and mirror memory, and some engine or transmission learned settings. Please have any radio or security codes ready.
  • We are responsible for the work we do. We are not responsible for faults that were already there, parts we didn't touch, or earlier work by someone else, though we will point out anything we notice.

8. Parts

  • We use reliable, reputable brands suited to your vehicle. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty as well as your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • If you supply your own parts, we will fit them, but our warranty covers our workmanship only, not the part. If a part you supplied is faulty or wrong, the extra labour to remove or refit it is charged.
  • Parts we supply remain our property until the invoice is paid in full.
  • Old parts we remove are yours. Ask us if you want to keep them, otherwise we will dispose of them responsibly.

9. Accessories, fit-outs and modifications

  • We fit accessories to the manufacturer's instructions and good practice, with the right relays, fuses and cabling.
  • Using an independent repairer, or fitting accessories correctly, does not by itself void your new vehicle warranty in Australia. We can document the install if you need it.
  • You are responsible for making sure modifications and accessories comply with road rules in your state or territory, and for telling your insurer about them. We are happy to advise.
  • Tuning and engine management work may be carried out by a specialist workshop we work with. We will tell you when this is the case.

10. Roadside and breakdown call-outs

We are not a roadside assistance club. If we can't get the vehicle going on the spot, we will tell you what is needed. Towing, if required, is arranged by you and at your cost, unless we agree otherwise.

11. Invoices

It can sometimes take one to two weeks for an invoice to be sent out after a job is completed. Please note you will receive your invoice on request, so if you need it sooner just let us know.

Your invoice will list the work done, parts supplied and the amount owing.

12. Payment

  • We accept bank transfer and cash.
  • Payment is due by the date shown on your invoice. Unless your invoice says otherwise, this is 7 days from the invoice date.
  • For larger jobs or fit-outs, we may ask for a deposit before ordering parts. We will tell you the amount before you commit.
  • We do not offer payment plans.
  • If an invoice stays unpaid after we have reminded you, we may pass it to a debt collector and recover reasonable costs of collecting it.
  • If we are holding your vehicle or parts, we may keep them until the invoice is paid, as the law allows.

13. Warranty on our work

All our workmanship is backed by warranty. The warranty period is shown on your invoice.

If something we did isn't right:

  • Text 0499 323 781 as soon as you notice it, with your name, the vehicle and what is happening.
  • Give us the chance to inspect and fix it before anyone else works on it. If someone else works on it first, we may not be able to cover it.
  • Warranty work is done at no charge. If the problem turns out not to be caused by our work, we will tell you before charging for any further diagnosis or repair.

Our warranty does not cover damage from accidents, misuse, neglect, water or flood, overloading circuits, normal wear and tear, or changes made by someone else after we finished.

14. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled to cancel your service contract with us, and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods. If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done, you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.

15. Our liability

Apart from your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, we are not liable for loss or damage we did not cause, including faults that already existed, parts or work by others, or delays outside our control. We take reasonable care with your vehicle and property while we work on it.

16. Privacy

We only use your details to do the job, send your invoice and contact you about the work. See our Privacy Policy for more.

17. Questions or issues

If you have any questions or issues, please send a text message to 0499 323 781. We will try to sort it out with you directly and fairly. If we can't agree, you can contact NSW Fair Trading or Access Canberra for free help.

18. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory. For work done in New South Wales, the consumer laws of New South Wales also apply.
